God is Enough
by Fr. Robert Aliunzi | 05/15/2026 | Weekly ReflectionDear friends,
Last week, as I made my way from the airport to a funeral Mass for a dear friend in Dallas, I had an encounter that has stayed with me in a quiet but powerful way. My Uber driver, named Duncan, handed me a simple wristband. On it were the words: "God is big enough." At the time, I received it politely, but it did not resonate immediately with me as my mind was focused on the funeral Mass I was heading to celebrate.
However, God was not finished, as He always has a way of speaking to us in mysterious ways under certain circumstances. On my return trip, I was picked up by the very same driver. This time, our conversation went deeper. I asked him why those wristbands, which he was passing around, mattered so much to him. He shared that the phrase on the wristbands comes from his Baptist pastor and that their church produces thousands of these bands to distribute far and wide, including China. For him, this was not a slogan-it was a mission.
He then recounted two experiences that touched him deeply. In one instance, he gave a wristband to a passenger who seemed burdened. Months later, he received an emotional message from the man's wife, explaining that those simple words had helped change her husband's life during a very dark time.
In another, he offered the same wristband to a young woman, a stripper, whom he picked up outside a strip club after a night's work. When she read it, she broke down in tears and asked, "Why do I deserve to hear such a word?"
That same question lingered in my mind. Why do any of us deserve to hear such a word? And yet, God continues to speak it - freely, lovingly, persistently. I am big enough!
To me, there is a profound lesson here for all of us.
First, we rarely know what others are carrying within them. Many people are going through tough times. A simple word, a small gesture, a quiet reminder of God's love can become a turning point in someone's life.
Second, what we often call "chance encounters" may in fact be moments of grace and opportunities for evangelization. God uses ordinary circumstances-an Uber ride, a brief conversation, a wristband - to reach into hearts that are searching, wounded, or weary.
And third, the message itself is deeply true: God is big enough. He is big enough to handle our fears, our sins, our doubts, and our brokenness. He is big enough to enter into the darkest corners of our lives and bring light. He is big enough to redeem, to heal, and to restore us. There is no situation beyond His reach, no life beyond His love.
The challenge for us is simple, but not always easy: to trust Him. To trust that He is at work even when we do not see it. To trust that He can bring good even out of pain. To trust that His grace is greater than anything we face.
Perhaps this week, we are invited to do two things: to receive this message for ourselves, and to share it with someone else. Because somewhere, someone may be waiting to hear it: God is big enough.
I love you!
